Samenwerking Nissan en Mitsubishi

De Japanse autobouwers Nissan en Mitsubishi gaan nauwer samenwerken. Dat hebben de twee bedrijven gisteren bekend gemaakt. Beide merken gaan auto's voor elkaar maken. Volgens het gezamenlijk persbericht gaat dat gebeuren in Azië.

De bekendmaking van de samenwerking komt vlak voor de onthulling van de middellange termijnplannen van Mitsubishi Motors. De verwachting is dat de Japanners deze week bekend maken waar ze nieuwe modellen gaan bouwen en welke fabrieken eventueel dicht gaan.
De nieuwe koers van Mitsubishi is van levensbelang voor NedCar in Born. Daar worden op dit moment de Mitsubishi-modellen Outlander en Colt gebouwd. Om ook na 2012 open te blijven, heeft de enige Nederlandse autofabriek een of meerdere nieuwe modellen nodig.
De bestuursvoorzitters van Mitsubishi en Nissan, Osamu Masuko en Carlos Ghosn zeggen niks over samenwerking in Europa. "Met deze samenwerking vullen we elkaar aan op het gebied van regio's en producten", stelt Masuko.
Mitsubishi gaat voor het Midden-oosten een SUV maken voor Nissan. Nissan gaat een Mitsubishi bestelwagen bouwen voor de Japanse markt.
In de Thaise Mitsubishifabriek worden binnenkort ook een pickup-truck gebouwd voor Nissan.
In Europa heeft Mitsubishi twee fabrieken. Een in het Russische Kaluga, de andere in Born. Nissan heeft ook twee autofabrieken in West-Europa. In het Britse Sunderland worden de modellen Qashqai, Micra en Note gebouwd. In Barcelona wordt gewerkt aan de Primastar, Pathfinder, Navara, Atleon en Cabstar.
Volgens Suat Koeltoe van vakbond De Unie is de samenwerking een interessante ontwikkeling. "Maar het zegt nog niets over wat Mitsubishi wil met NedCar. Bij Japanners is een beslissing pas definitief als iet op papier staat."
De samenwerking met Nissan heeft overigens geen gevolgen voor de samenwerking met het Franse PSA, zegt Mitsubishi-baas Masuko.

Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors to Expand Scope of Cooperation - Expansion of current OEM projects into study on overseas co-production, mini car in Japan -

YOKOHAMA/TOKYO (Dec. 14, 2010) - Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation today announced that the two companies agreed to expand their current scope of cooperation towards new projects that will further strengthen mutual competitiveness, especially in the Japanese mini car and global commercial vehicle businesses.   Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors currently have several OEM agreements for vehicles in the Japanese market, including for mini cars and commercial vehicles. In addition to expanding the scope of the current OEM partnership, the two companies agreed to study new opportunities which would generate additional synergies. The cooperation agreement between Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors will be complementary to any agreements the two parties have already established with other partners.   Regarding the expansion of the OEM partnership, the following have been agreed: Nissan to provide a light van/wagon to Mitsubishi Motors for the Japanese domestic market Mitsubishi Motors to provide an SUV to Nissan for markets in the Middle East   Discussions are ongoing for Nissan to provide Mitsubishi Motors with upper-end segment models for the Japanese domestic market.   Regarding new opportunities, two projects are currently under study:   The manufacture of the current generation of Nissan Navara pickup truck at Mitsubishi Motors' plant in Thailand. Longer-term, the two companies are evaluating manufacturing and engineering collaboration of a new generation one-ton pickup truck. Establishment of a 50:50 joint venture for product planning and engineering of mini cars for the Japanese domestic market.   Nissan President and CEO Carlos Ghosn said "This agreement is important for Nissan as it supports our expansion in emerging markets, meets immediate capacity needs overseas, and enables us to grow our mini car business in Japan.
